FCC Environment Pop-up Reuse Shop

Revolutionary Pop-up Reuse Shop is coming to Canterbury Recycling Centre.

Revolutionary Pop-up Reuse Shop is coming to Canterbury Recycling Centre.

An exciting partnership is coming to Kent on Sunday 16th July as FCC Environment team up with Pilgrims Hospice to deliver Kent’s first ever reuse pop up shop giving residents an opportunity to buy good quality pre-loved items at rock bottom prices with funds going to charity. FCC Environment manages the twelve Household Waste and Recycling Centres across Mid and East Kent on behalf of Kent County Council and two of its Household Waste Recycling Centres have been busy collecting good quality, preloved items ready for the ‘pop-up shop’, which is to be held from 10am-2pm at the Canterbury HWRC, Vauxhall Road, Canterbury, Kent CT1 1HD.

Items for sale on the day will include kitchen blenders, lawnmowers, bikes, children’s toys, musical instruments- and much more!

Vikki Sedgwick, FCC Environment’s Education and Communication Officer said “It’s extremely exciting to be having our first pop-up shop as we are really keen to bring reuse to Mid and East Kent. We have run a few bike schemes already, so something on this scale is great! To be holding it in Canterbury, which is known for its student population, with two large universities, we will hopefully see a very diverse attendance from both young to old residents looking to snap up a bargain”. Reuse is becoming more and more popular especially in the current climate and by encouraging people to reuse rather than purchasing new, we are doing our bit to help the circular economy as well as having a positive impact on the environment.

Gemma Green, FCC Environment’s Reuse Development Manager commented, “This event will not only encourage reuse and the diversion of items from the waste stream, the funds raised will help Pilgrims Hospice to continue providing care and support to those living with incurable illness in East Kent.”

Kent County Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Susan Carey, said: “I very much welcome the opening of a pop-up reuse shop at KCC’s Household Waste Recycling Centre in Canterbury, where there’s plenty of space to host it.“I hope it will be well supported to benefit both our environment and a well-loved charity.”
